When we decided to convert a 3-bedroom mountain house into a 7-bedroom luxury short-term rental — adding a multi-sport simulator, basement bar, barrel sauna, mini-golf, hot tub, custom bunk room with a slide, and full bathroom rebuilds — most contractors quoted us, then quietly didn't call back.
